Our world is at once supremely connected and supremely disconnected (and even, divisive). What if something that we do every day could make us more brave, creative, and inspiring leaders? What if there was a simple way to sustainably create change and equality in the world. Would you engage in it? Would you share it?
Coffee is the global symbol of connection - to others, to ourselves, and to the world we serve. Its simplicity and universality gives it the power to create massive change in each of us and in the world. At Caffè Unimatic, we think a lot about legacy and to us, the ritual of coffee is also a totem of inspiration, hope and positive forward movement.
The Unimatic was always the centerpiece of our family table, as if she was "hosting" our conversations and witnessing our bravery. At every meal, she invited us to linger, sipping coffee while we listened, while we shared, while we learned. Those stories, those conversations are what made me brave, made me curious and made me whole.
Now, her legacy is getting to host, witness and inspire yours. The Brave Conversations Over Coffee series was created with the intention of bringing humans together around the table to take brave steps forward... over coffee.
We believe that "Brave Conversation" is key in unlocking the shift we need to remedy the complex and deeply rooted issues that we face today. We can march, we can fight, we can petition for legislation but change will only be organic, widespread and sustainable when we are able to genuinely want the person sitting across the table from us to be well, no matter how different they, their backgrounds, and their experiences are from us and ours. Sharing ourselves and truly understanding others is the next necessary evolution in our culture and holds the key to our path forward.
Caffe Unimatic’s Brave Conversations Over Coffee series is arming those around their tables with the tools to better communicate and unlock the parts of our brains that allow us to create, connect, and lead in new ways. Since 2018 (officially), we have been gathering diverse groups around tables and to spark conversation, empathy and understanding that was not previously accessible, but we've actually been facilitating these for a long, long time. We've created a simple structure for introducing this practice into the world (note: simple doesn't always mean easy, but if it were easy, we wouldn't be in the state we're in). If this sounds transformative, that's because it is - we're so excited to share.

Update: At the beginning of 2019, I committed to hosting 52 Brave Conversations Over Coffee in 2019 (at LEAST 52, that is) and am simultaneously conducting a research project around the topic. I'm excited to host as many as possible and would love the opportunity to host one for you, your team, family, friends, organizations, wherever you are. Using coffee as a platform for connection and furthering human development is a privilege and feels like I've combined my passions into something that I couldn't be more committed to.
